What Are You Thankful For?

When asked to list what he was thankful for, one little boy wrote, “My glasses!”
“That’s good,” said the teacher, “they help you see better”.
“No,” responded the child, “I’m thankful for my glasses because they keep the other boys from hitting and fighting with me and the girls from kissing me.”

At the end of the year, our natural tendency is to fuss and complain about the bad things that have happened during the course of the year, the bad decisions we have taken, our unrealized goals, how others have tampered with our plans and so on.

But this is not the best way to end the year. Instead, we must be intentional about being grateful to God for all the good things He has done for us and more importantly the Person He has been to us. By the way, we don’t have to be thankful based on the misfortune of others. If we think deeply, we certainly can thank God on the merits of our pursuits of purpose.

One, we should be thankful for the gift of life. This is essentially all we need to be thankful. Scripture says all who have breath should praise God. Our thankfulness should not depend on anything other than the flow of breath in our nostrils.

Two, we should be thankful for the understanding of life’s purpose. Without purpose, life is meaningless. If we have received and enjoyed the grace to be purposeful in the closing year, this is certainly a reason to be thankful.

Lastly, we should be thankful for the hope that we can get better. No matter what we may have faced in 2015, the new year comes with the promise of a better us and fresh opportunities to grow, excel and prosper.

As we wrap up 2015, what are you (specifically) thankful for?

……………..
I was (originally) going to write a reflection on my favourite posts published this year before I got the inspiration for this post. So, I’ll like you to do that for me. Which of the 52 posts published on this blog this year blessed you most? Please, drop a comment!

I wish you a blessed and most purposeful 2016!
